Described as probably the best winter 24 hour mountain bike race in the Scottish Highlands, the Strathpuffer this year was described as some of the the worst conditions ever experienced with showers,
sleet and lots of mud. Despite all this, spirits were high and Contin Forest was a buzz of excitement and adrenalin.
ROBBIE MITCHELL (Durness) was crowned Strathpuffer champion completing 26 laps of the 12.5km course in 23 hours and 50 minutes.
GEMMA BAIRD (Knockando, Moray) won the women’s solo title completing 16 laps to win the title for the first time in her career.
With a variety of teams taking place, it was great to see our local Dingwall Academy taking part in a team of four (Struan, Callum, Victor and Murray), achieving 25th out of 89 adult teams.
A variety of refreshments were available to teams, volunteers and spectators in the onsite event tent with some cyclists enjoying a pint before bed from Windswept Brewing Company who even have their own fruit session IPA bottled especially for the event called “Puffer”.
A regular volunteer Marshall, said that Strathpuffer cyclists really are the best and the event is always the highlight of her year. This year her son also assisted and was delighted t be helping out.
